The Department of German conducts research in the field of German linguistics, e.g. bilingualism, multilingualism, specialised languages, sociolinguistics, linguistic discourse analysis, translation studies, lexicology, metaphor studies, bilingual education, phraseology, advertising language, media language and contrastive linguistics. Our research addresses issues important to the wider community, including those related to the multiculturalism and multilingualism of the local Silesian community; we develop cooperation with international and local partners and actively participate in numerous cultural initiatives of both a local and pan-European nature.
